Attention Parents of students in Yr 7 2016

Dear Parent / Carer,

With the abolishment of the Digital Education Revolution program two years ago which saw every student in Year 9 receive a notebook, schools have been moving towards a ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) program where students bring personal devices to school for the purpose of learning. BPHS have been watching this with interest as schools jumped on board and offered a range of BYOD models.

After extensive consultation we have decided to move down this path. From the beginning of next year, 2016 Bossley Park High School will implement a ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) policy for all students in Years 7-12. Students wishing to use their own device at school will be permitted to connect to the school network after signing a user agreement and visiting the Technical Support Officer.

Bossley Park High School recognises that devices are integral to the world in which students live and they should be integral to support their learning at school. It can also extend learning opportunities to times and places both inside and outside of the classroom. In this digital age students need to be highly skilled and productive users of technology to effectively communicate, investigate, generate ideas, collaborate and manage digital solutions to challenges arising from learning activities or respond to a creative intention. Students will also learn to apply social and ethical protocols and practices when using technology.

Attached to this letter are details for the specifications and recommended devices that your child can bring to school next year. We have sourced a supplier of these devices and will advertised them via an online portal where such devices will be able to be purchased with additional warranty.

We look forward to seeing you at the Year 7 Orientation Evening, Wednesday 2nd December from 6pm-7.30pm where you will have an opportunity to discuss BYOD further and ask any questions you may have in relation to this initiative.

In the meantime, please visit the school’s website for updates on BYOD for 2016.
